Proconsent Too Good In Provincial Final
PROCONSENT capped a lucrative day for owner Neil Irvine after winning the Sky Racing.TV-Provincial Championship Series Final (1400m) at Belmont on Saturday.
Backing up stylishly from his championship heat win at Pinjarra, Proconsent, sent out as a $13.20 chance, scored a great win over Hot Style and Pastry.
Under a patient ride from Chloe Azzopardi, the Rob and Todd Harvey-trained four-year-old was situated in the back of the field for the majority of the race.
Hooked to the outside on straightening, the son of Proart unleashed a powerful winning burst down the outside and hit the front with 50m remaining.
At the post, he held a one length margin over Hot Style with another half-head to Pastry. Stablemate Gifted Warrior ran fourth.
The flop of the race was tote favourite Power Of St George. The $2.50 fancy got a long way back from his wide draw and made no impact in the run home.
Coming of a last-start win at Bunbury, the David Harrison-trained three-year-old ran 11th in the field of 16.
Proconsent gave Irvine an interstate double after Reykjavik won the Apache Cat Handicap (1600m) at Flemington.
Proconsent boosted his record to five wins and one second from nine starts. His latest win takes prize money to over $100,000.
“He goes pretty well this little horse,” Rob Harvey said.
“His racing a little different this prep.
“Last prep he was always up on the pace a bit.
“This time he’s learning to settle a bit and is finishing off his races really well.
“He finished off well at Pinjarra the other day.
“We’ll just tick him over through the grades.
“And it was a good result for Neil Irvine as well.”
Neil Irvine owns and stands Proart at his property Balmoral Park Stud in the Bedfordale Hills. Proart has currently a 61.3% strike rate of Wnrs/Rnrs with only 31 Starters to date for 19 Winners. Stud Manager Brian Collison, is more than impressed with his current progeny as well as his rising 2yos. “Proart has served quality mares in the last few seasons and we are excited about his rising 2yos which are already showing early signs on the training track.
